VJM Members JPMorgan Chase and USAA Sponsor Veteran Employment Session at SHRM Annual Conference

On Saturday, June 22 Veteran Jobs Mission (VJM) coalition members shared veteran talent best practices with 30 small and middle market employers in an effort to build and strengthen their veteran employment programs.

The session, Veterans at Work: Activating Veteran Employment, was jointly sponsored by JPMorgan Chase and USAA and presented during the Society for Human Resources (SHRM) Annual Conference in Las Vegas.

Jason Wright, Vice President on the Military and Veterans Affairs team at JPMorgan Chase, presented on veteran talent development and highlighted the newly launched Veterans at Work digital toolkit produced in partnership with the SHRM Foundation. The toolkit will provide best practices to attract, hire and retain veterans along the employee life cycle, while linking to no-cost, high quality resources. "We envision that this dynamic resources will be a benefit to HR, front-line managers and the veterans they serve," said Jason.

"With great partners such as JPMorgan Chase & Co. we were able to launch new programs this year to advance our Veterans at Work initiative. Each program helped activate our promise to inspire and empower HR professionals to attract, hire and retain veterans in their places of work, and to help facilitate and create connections in their communities," said Wendi Safstrom, Executive Director of the SHRM Foundation.

Mike McManus, Senior HR Talent Programs Strategist at USAA, presented on veteran talent acquisition and John McGarrity, Executive Director of Talent Delivery Programs at USAA, presented on veteran talent development. Fellow coalition members Comcast NBCUniversal and AT&T also participated and presented on topics such as employer readiness, hiring and development.
